TGRA holding Hard Candy Christmas benefit show

The Texas Gay Rodeo Association will hold its annual Hard Candy Christmas Show and Auction on Saturday, Dec. 5, at Illusions Bar, 4100 Maple Ave., in Dallas. The show starts at 8 p.m.

Emcee for the event is McKenzie Storm, and the show will include entertainment by several special guests and Christmas performances by local favorites.

The event is a fundraiser stocking auction for the charities TGRA supports throughout the year.

GLSEN Dallas holding 2009 board member recruitment drive

The Gay, Lesbian, & Straight Education Network will hold its annual Board Recruitment and Informational Meeting on Sunday, Dec. 6 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m at Hung*ding*er Restaurant, 4000 Cedar Springs Road. Interested individuals can also find information on the group’s Web site at glsen.org/dallas.

GLSEN is a national non-profit organization working on issues related to LGBT youth in the schools. GLSEN Dallas oversees the local implementation of GLSEN’s national initiatives as well as fostering local initiatives and partnerships, including The National Day of Silence, TransAction! Day, National No Name-Calling Week, Ally Week, and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Organizing Weekend.

Kathering Perot challenges DIFFA to raise $10,000

The Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS (DIFFA) has announced a $10,000 matching gift challenge set by Katherine Perot and the DIFFA Texas Board of Trustees. Through Dec. 31, Perot will match every donation to DIFFA, up to a total of $10,000.

Spoken word, art auction set to benefit Creating Change

A spoken word and art auction fundraiser is being held Dec. 6, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Lucky’s Café in Dallas to benefit the 22nd National Conference on LGBT Equality: Creating Change. The theme is "Queering Social Justice." The event will feature host Amy Weaver, as well as local poets, spoken word artists and a musical performance by Sonya Jevette. The event is free and open to the public. If guests tell their server they are event attendees, Lucky’s will donate half of their purchase to the fundraiser. Also, local artists will have their work on display and available for bidding.

All funds raised will go toward the Creating Change conference, Feb. 3-7 in Dallas.
