Cheer group seeks participants
Dallas Pride, a collegiate-style co-ed cheer/stunt/dance Team in Dallas, is looking for active men and women 18 years or older, with the desire to perform at local cheerleading, fundraising and community events to raise awareness in the fight against HIV/AIDS and other incurable diseases.

Previous experience in gymnastics, cheerleading, diving, power lifting, and fundraising is an asset but not a requirement. Non-performing volunteers are also welcome.

COH presents Pentecost art show
The Cathedral of Hope will host the gallery opening of "A Creative Call: The Response of Artists to the Flow of the Spirit," a collaboration of CityGallery and the Cathedral of Hope, on Saturday, May 10, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The show is based on the Biblical narrative of Pentecost — the birthday of the Christian Church — found in the Book of Acts.

Artists include Linda McLemore, Jesus Galvan, Jalal Clements, K.C. Jones, Jan Partin, Guy Reynolds, VET, Christine Peirce, Robert Dodd, KeLaine Kvale, Dan Peeler and Melissa Smith.

The reception will feature live jazz, and wine and cheese will be served. All art will be for sale and will be available for pick-up after the show closes at the end of June. Repliques® of the piece created by Marty Ruiz to celebrate the launch of Art for Peace & Justice also will be available.

The event is free and open to all. The Cathedral of Hope is located at 5910 Cedar Springs Road.

UP Audi to host cancer benefit
University Park Audi will present LiveSTRONG in the Parks, a cancer awareness event, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 13, at at the dealership, 5033 Lemmon Ave. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

There will be hotdogs, bratwursts and drinks, along with a bake sale and raffles for various items, including a full-sized, autographed Dallas Cowboy helmet with a starting bid of $300.

The event is open to the public.



Oak Lawn Crime Watch meets May 21
The next meeting of the Oak Lawn Crime Watch will be held at noon on May 21 at the Oak Lawn Library.

Betty Worden from Braesbrook Apartments will lead the meeting and she plans to have officials from the Northwest and Central Patrol Divisions address issues specific to apartment managers and owners.


Boots and Briefs to benefit TGRA, ASNT
Mr. TGRA 2008 Wade Earp and Miss TGRA 2008 Trisha Davis will be hosts for the "Boots and Briefs" underwear auction benefiting the Dallas chapter of the Texas Gay Rodeo Association and AIDS Services of North Texas, at 8 p.m. on May 17 at the Hidden Door, 502 Bowser.

The event will feature models from various local organizations and sports clubs, including the Dallas Diablos, Highway Men, Southern Ladies Under Tremendous Stress, Firedancers, TKO, DFW Leatherboys, RRRA, TGRA and more.



Knights present Military Manuevers
The Leather Knights of Dallas, with the help of the Dallas Eagle, will stage Military Manuevers 2008 on Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 15, beginning at 9 p.m. at Dallas Eagle, 2515 Inwood Road.

The event will benefit the Nelson-Tebedo Health Resource Center, with a focus on raising money to buy new equipment for the center’s dental clinic.

This event will include a live USO-style show, a silent auction, boot blacking and military haircuts from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m., raffle tickets, a "Best Military Uniform" contest and a live recruit auction. Military Manuevers is one of the Leather Knights’ largest annual fundraisers.
