Cece Cox, associate executive director for GLBT community services for Resource Center of Dallas, has been appointed as a founding member of the executive board for the Annette Caldwell Simmons School of Education & Human Development at Southern Methodist University.
In her position at the Center, Cox is directly responsible for creating and maintaining programs at one of the largest GLBT community centers in the United States. Her activism has included work with Turtle Creek Chorale, Legal Hospice of Texas, Youth First Texas and the regional office of Lambda Legal.
Cox is also a former president of the Dallas Gay and Lesbian Alliance, former co-chair of GLAAD Dallas and a board member of Black Tie Dinner. She is an alumna of Leadership Dallas and Leadership Lambda, is a former board member of the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identification Issues Law Section for the State Bar of Texas, and an attorney licensed in the state of Texas. Cox earned a bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University and a law degree from SMU.
During the current academic year, Resource Center of Dallas and the Simmons School of Education have worked together on two projects. The center provided diversity training for faculty and staff members of the Simmons School, and last fall the school and the center partnered to establish low-cost mental health counseling for the Oak Lawn community, based out of Resource Center of Dallas.
Texas Hold ‘Em tournament set Sunday to benefit Fairway to Equality
All-In for Equality, a Texas Hold ‘Em poker tournament benefiting the Fairway to Equality Golf Tournament will be held Sunday, May 10, at Jack’s Backyard, 2303 Pittman St. Lessons begin at 2 p.m., with registration at 3 p.m. and the tournament at 4 p.m.
A $25 buy-in donation will be requested at registration, with a $15 add-on available. An optional $15 buy-in will be available at the first break, and up to two $25 re-donations are available prior to the first break.
Anyone who brings their mother with them will receive 1,000 bonus chips. Anyone who RSVPs to kimdeneau@mac.com will receive 1,000 bonus chips. The winner will receive cash prizes.
