GAIN presents program on protecting identity, safety, money
Resource Center Dallas’ GAIN (GLBT + Aging Interest Network) will hold a presentation Thursday, May 28 on "Protecting Your Identity, Safety and Money." The free program starts at 6 p.m. and will be held at the center, 2701 Reagan St.

The program will feature three speakers. Sgt. Shelley Knight with the Dallas County Sherriff’s Department, will speak about personal safety issues. David Leopard, a writer with the Dallas Morning News, will discuss identity theft. Steven Robinson, with the Texas Attorney General’s Office, will speak about senior scams.

A question-and-answer period will follow the presentation.

Resource Center Dallas holding annual Gayla Prom in June
Resource Center Dallas presents the 12th annual Gayla Prom, "Masquerade Ball," for GLBTQ youth and allies ages 14-22 on June 6 from 7 p.m. to midnight at the Owens Arts Center on the Southern Methodist University campus.

The prom will include dancing, socializing, prizes and the selection of the prom king and queen.

The Gayla Prom is one of the largest events of its kind in the country, and was named "Best Prom" in Dallas last year by the Dallas Observer. Resource Center Dallas took over the event last year. Gayla Prom was started in 1997 by the Walt Whitman Community School.

Stonewall Democrats to honor founders with ‘Celebrate Beginnings’ event
Stonewall Democrats of Dallas will hold the "Celebrate Beginnings" party honoring the organization’s founding members on June 13 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Sue Ellen’s, 3014 Throckmorton St.

Founding members to be honored include Bill Fry, Gary Fitzsimmons, Christy Kinsler and Michael Milliken. The event will include music, food and a cash bar.

As part of Stonewall’s celebration of its history, the organization will be preparing and presenting a video diary of its founding, and members have partnered with the Phil Johnson Historic Archives and Research Library to showcase the library’s mobile display of the "History of the Gay Rights Movement in Dallas." Those who participate as a sponsor of the "Celebrate Beginnings" event are also eligible to attend a private reception with the four founders at 2 p.m. that same day. Sponsors also receive free tickets to the party that afternoon.
