Labrador, Demarest highlight luncheon
Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund’s Southwest Regional office will hold its 6th annual Women’s Brunch on Saturday, March 29, and the event will feature "Queer Eye for the Straight Girl" star Honey Labrador and civil rights attorney Sylvia M. Demarest.
The luncheon will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at a private home, and admission is a suggested donation of $50.
Demarest, a graduate of the University of Texas School of Law, has worked in the Reginald Heber Smith Community Lawyer Fellowship Program in South Texas, litigation education discrimination cases in the Mexican-American community. She also was counsel for the plaintiff in Kos v. Diocese of Dallas, the 1997 case that resulted in what was, at the time, the largest jury verdict settlement in a sexual abuse case against the Catholic church.
Although she may be best known for being part of the team that put a gay sensibility to work in sprucing up the homes, wardrobes and bodies of heterosexual women in the Bravo show "Queer Eye for the Straight Girl," Labrador actually began her career in 1994 as an independent producer.
After "Queer Eye" ended its run, she became producer and cohost of "Xcess/Access" and launched her own line of denim, seen on "The L Word.

Dragging up funds for Legacy
Female impersonator Natasha Versace will be host for "Flower Power," a special show benefiting the Legacy Counseling Center, on Saturday, March 29, at 10:30 p.m. at Illusions, 4100 Maple Ave.
Entertainers participating in the event are Samantha Steele, Sabrina Starr, Jenna Skyy, Lacey Alexander, The Contessa Piranha, Mackenzie Storm, Montana Reed and Tessy. The event is presented by Showcase Productions and flowers will be donated by All Occasions Florist.
No Tie Dinner benefits ASD
AIDS Services of Dallas’ annual fundraiser, the No Tie Dinner & Dessert Party, is set for Saturday, March 29, beginning with several dinner parties in private homes around the city at 6 p.m.
The private dinner parties will be followed by a dessert social and silent auction at the Frontiers of Flight Museum near Love Field.
More than 600 people from around the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex are expected to attend.
Proceeds from the evening will help fund the programs at AIDS Services, an organization that helps people with AIDS to live independently. Dallas jeweler Joe Pacetti will be honorary chairman of the event. Dennis Kershner is event chairman.
Sponsorships are still available at several levels, and individual participation at private homes and venues throughout the DFW area is encouraged.

‘Flight 404’ takes off for TCC
The Turtle Creek Chorale is promising "an evening of non-stop entertainment" with its 23008 spring gala, "Flight 404," set for Friday, April 4, at the Frontiers of Flight Museum.
The event, a fundraiser for the primarily gay men’s chorus, will include cocktails, hors d’oeuvres by Gil’s Elegant Catering and live entertainment, along with silent and live auctions, according to a statement released recently by TCC officials.
Auction items include domestic and international trips, cruises and a ride in a MIG jet.
Event Chair Robert Cole said that given the success of the chorale’s 2007 spring gala, organizers expect the 2008 gala to be "the year’s premier event. … Guests not only get to enjoy great entertainment, but they also have the opportunity to win prizes while supporting the Turtle Creek Chorale."
Flight 404" begins at 7 p.m. "First class seating" tickets are $125 and include VIP seating, table services, two drink coupons and a VIP gift bag.

AIDS Walk Tarrant County steps off April 6
The 16th Annual AIDS Walk Tarrant County will be held Sunday, April 6 at the Community Arts Center, located at 1300 Gendy Street in Fort Worth.
Vendors and registration open at 1 p.m. and the walk begins at 2:30 p.m.
Interested individuals can register for the walk and raise funds online at www.firstgiving.com/aocwalk. There will be prizes awarded to the three individuals who raise the most money and for the team raises the most money.
The top two individuals will each receive a trophy and American Airlines travel vouchers, while the individual in third place will receive a trophy.
The top team will receive a trophy, a team party at La Familia Mexican Restaurant and a photo featured in a Fort Worth Weekly "thank you" ad.
Each person participating in the walk also has a chance to be entered into a raffle for two American Airlines travel vouchers. Each person will receive one entry in the raffle for every $200 he or she raises.
For participants to be eligible for prizes and the raffle, they must turn in the money they have raised by 8 p.m. on April 3. AIDS Outreach Center officers will be open until 8 p.m. on April 2 and April 3 to facilitate turning in money. The center is located at 801 W. Cannon St. in Fort Worth.

Greenland Hills UMC holding auction
Greenland Hills United Methodist Church, a progressive church that welcomes all people, will hold its third annual spring gourmet dinner and auction on Saturday, April 19, at 6:30 p.m.
The event will be held under a tent at the church, 5835 Penrose St., in the M Streets area, and will include silent and live auctions, with a professional auctioneer handling the live auction. Items in the auctions include artwork and ski lessons and everything in between.
