Services set for crash victims
Three separate services will be held for the two Dallas couples who were killed in a plane crash on July 8. The twin engine Cessna came down in the Gulf of Mexico during bad weather.

A service for Steve Barrows, 33, who piloted the plane, will be held in the chapel at Restland Memorial Park, 9220 Restland Road at Greenville Avenue on July 25 at 10 a.m.

Roland Schurrer, Barrow’s partner of 11 years, will be remembered at a service at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 W. Northwest Highway on July 25 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be sent to the SPCA.

Greg Arceneaux, 54, and Jeff Byron, 40, who were together for 17 years, will be remembered at a service at Cathedral of Hope, 5910 Cedar Springs Road, on July 25 at 5 p.m. Donations for a park bench in their honor can be made through the Lee Park Conservancy at www.arlingtonhallatleepark.com.

Knight speaking at Valiente/LULAC meeting
Sgt. Shelley Knight, the LGBT community liaison for the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department, will be one of two guest speakers at a joint meeting of Valiente and LULAC 4871-Dallas Rainbow Council on Tuesday, July 28 at 6:30 p.m. at the Oak Cliff location of La Calle Doce, 415 W. 12th St. in Dallas. Michael Lee will also speak at the meeting on health care reform.

DYSD sending delegates to convention
Dallas Stonewall Young Democrats this week announced plans to send five delegates to the Young Democrats of America National Convention, Aug. 5-9 in Chicago.

DYSD delegates to the convention are Matt Burckhalter, vice president of DYSD, treasurer of Texas Young Democrats and a member of the Texas Stonewall Democratic Caucus; Jennifer Allen, DYSD secretary; Pennington Ingley, DYSD treasurer and chair of the Texas Young Democrats Stonewall Caucus; Paul Tran, political director for DYSD and an Equality Texas board member; and Michael Austin, a sustaining member of DYSD.

DSYD will hold a pool party fundraiser on Sunday, Aug. 2 to help pay convention expenses for the delegates, including flight, hotel and registration. The party will be hosted by Tim Chaney and Dan Hall from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at their home. For more information call Burckhalter at 405-249-9492.

QL announces Fort Worth Chapter
The direct action group Queer LiberAction has announced that Joe Remsik has been named QL’s leader of community development in Fort Worth as part of the organizations’s efforts to "foster visible, direct action activism in Fort Worth." The first meeting for the new Fort Worth QL chapter will be Wednesday, July 29, at 7 p.m. at Starbucks, 404 Houston St. The group will hold meetings thereafter on the first and third Wednesday of each month.

Queer LiberAction will hold its second Milk box event in Sundance Square beginning at 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 26.
