New group starts for GLBT smokers looking for help in quitting
The Lambda Group of Nicotine Anonymous now meets each Tuesday at 7 p.m. at New Hope Fellowship Church, 2438 Butler St. in Dallas.
The group is for GLBT nicotine users who have been unsuccessful in their efforts to break the habit, and are looking for support as they continue to try to quit using nicotine.
The only requirement is a desire to quit using nicotine.
Sr. Helen Prejean to speak on death penalty issues at McKinney church
Sr. Helen Prejean, who wrote the book “Dead Man Walking” later made into a movie starring Susan Sarandon and Sean Penn about her experiences with a Louisiana man on death row, will talk about her experiences as an eyewitness to executions, the death penalty process in the United States, and her work with the families of murder victims and death row inmates Friday at 7 p.m. at St. Gabriel the Archangel Community church, 110 St. Gabriel Way in McKinney.
TCU Gay Straight Alliance planning Day of Silence, Rainbow Carnival
The Texas Christian University chapter of the Gay Straight Alliance will hold a “Day of Silence and Rainbow Carnival” on April 26 on the university’s campus.
The purpose of the event is to create awareness of, foster acceptance of and encourage advocacy for GLBT students and their allies and the victims of hate crimes.
Throughout the day, participants will take a vow of silence to recognize the unheard voices of hate crimes victims. Several visual expressions will also be part of the event.
There will be a worship service at the Robert Carr Chapel from noon to 1 p.m..
At 5 p.m., participants will be released from their vow of silence to symbolize “the voices we have been given and the power we have to use those voices to make a difference.”
The alliance presents the Rainbow Carnival and the Breaking the Silence Concert in front of Frog Fountain on the campus.

St. Thomas the Apostle Episcopal features talk by theologian author
The Rev. James Alison will present a special Easter program at St. Thomas the Apostle Episcopal Church on April 28-30.
Allison is a Catholic theologian, priest and author of “The Joy of Being Wrong: Original Sin Through Easter Eyes,” “Knowing Jesus,” “Raising Abel,” and others.
