The Women’s Chorus of Dallas to hold open auditions

The Women’s Chorus of Dallas will hold open rehearsals for women interested in joining the chorus on Monday, Jan. 7 and Monday, Jan. 14 at 6:45 p.m.

Interested singers are invited to sit in on a rehearsal, to meet with the other members of the chorus and to learn more about becoming a member.

The Women’s Chorus of Dallas offers women an opportunity sing the classical choral repertoire as well as popular music and other genres. Prior experience or music reading is not a requirement for membership.

Current openings are available for both chorus members and soloists. Regular season rehearsals are held every Monday from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Members are expected to attend every rehearsal.

The chorus, with a current volunteer membership of 56 women, performs a 3 concert series along with over 20 outreach performances each year. Outreach performances include Komen Race for the Cure, Caroling at the Adolphus, Women’s Peace Conference, AIDS awareness, Domestic Violence Shelters and many other worthwhile causes. The chorus will be traveling to Miami, Florida in July to perform at an International choral festival.

HRC announces “‘L Word’ Season 5 Premiere Party, golf tournament

The Human Rights Campaign’s Dallas Steering Committee has organized a premiere party for the fifth season of the “L Word.”

It will be held at Station 4 on Jan. 6. Doors open at 3 p.m., and the screening starts at 4 p.m. All guests must be 21 to attend. A $5 donation is requested for entry to the event.

All guests will receive an advance copy of the second episode of the fifth season on DVD.

There will be a look-a-like contest for guests who want to dress as their favorite show character. Volunteers are being sought for the party, which will include a drawing and poster giveaways.

The HRC “Fairway to Equality” women’s golf tournament team and caddy auction will be Friday, May 30 and the tournament will be Sunday, June 1.

Deidra Burns and J’aime Joiner will be the tournament co-chairs.

Volunteers are being sought for the golf committee and the caddy auction.

Turtle Creek Chorale to hold new member auditions

The Turtle Creek Chorale will hold its first rehearsal of the new year at the Sammons Center for the Arts on Jan. 8 at 7 p.m., and new member auditions will be at the same location on Jan. 9 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Anyone interested in attending the first rehearsal to learn more about the group’s performances is welcome to attend the rehearsal. Those wanting to join the 200-member group can audition at the musical conference the following night.

The Turtle Creek Chorale was founded in 1980. The group has released 36 compact discs featuring their music and was the subject of an award-winning documentary.

Resource Center of Dallas to host 10th annual Toast to Life preview party

The Resource Center of Dallas will provide a glimpse of the Venetian Carnival masked ball it has planned for the 10th annual Toast to Life celebration this year.

The event, which will include hors d’oeurves and cocktails, will be held at the Women’s Museum at Fair Park on Jan. 10 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tickets are $25.
