LGBT groups to participate in anti-gun rally Aug. 28
LULAC 4871, Valiente, the Dallas Gay and Lesbian Alliance, Hope for Peace and Justice and Stonewall Democrats of Dallas will participate in a rally against gun violence from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28.
The rally will begin at the MLK Library, 2922 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in Dallas, followed by a short walk to Warren United Methodist Church, 3028 Malcolm X Blvd.
It will commemorate the 44th anniversary of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I have a dream” march on Washington in 1963. The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence and Jesse Jackson’s Rainbow/PUSH have asked that cities across America recognize the date.
Featured speakers include Dallas Mayor Pro Tem Elba Garcia and Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway.

Out & Equal DFW to host fundraiser at Wine’tastic! on Sept. 6
Out & Equal DFW will hold a fundraiser Thursday, Sept. 6 for its educational programs and to send volunteers to a national training conference in Washington, D.C.
The fundraiser will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Wine’tastic!, 4140 Lemmon Ave., Suite 130, Dallas. It will include a tasting of a variety of wines, assorted cheeses and other appetizers, plus music and a short ceremony recognizing individuals and organizations that have provided support for Out & Equal’s vision of workplace equality.

Tollway, Cedar Springs bridge will be closed this weekend
The south end of the Dallas North Tollway and the Cedar Springs Road bridge will be closed from midnight Saturday, Aug. 25 until 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 27.
The closure will allow crews to hang new beams for the Cedar Springs Road bridge and switch traffic onto newly paved northbound lanes from Maple Avenue to Wycliffe Avenue. Following the closure, widening of the Cedar Springs Road bridge is expected to be complete within eight weeks, with two lanes in each direction.
The tollway will be closed northbound from Interstate 35 to Mockingbird Lane and southbound from Northwest Highway to the south end.
The North Texas Tollway Authority is asking motorists to plan ahead, expect delays and consider alternative routes, such as I-35 and Central Expressway.
Hunt, Levinthal will be guest speakers at August LCR meeting
Dallas City Councilwoman Angela Hunt and Dallas Morning news political reporter Dave Levinthal will be the guest speakers at the August meeting of Log Cabin Republicans of Dallas, according to LCR-Dallas President Robert Schlein.
Angela Hunt will explain the Trinity River Petition effort to allow a vote on the proposed toll-road that is to be built as part of the project.
The meeting will be held at Mattito’s Cafe Mexicano, 3011 Routh St. Happy hour begins at 6:30 p.m., The dinner and program begins at 7 p.m.
Log Cabin meetings are open to all, and welcome all LGBT people are invited to attend, regardless of political party affiliation.
