Art sale, raffle set to benefit AIDS Outreach Center in Tarrant County on Saturday
An art sale and exhibition featuring the works of contemporary ceramic artist Pam Summers of Fort Worth, original glass art created by her partner and husband Raymond Rains and designer jewelry created by Sharon McClung, will be held Saturday, June 9, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Cliff House Studio and Gallery, 8092 Eagle Mountain Drive west of Fort Worth.
Proceeds will benefit the AIDS Outreach Center of Tarrant County.
Each artist has donated works that will be included in a raffle drawing at 7 p.m.
All proceeds from admission and raffle tickets as well as a percentage of all art sales go directly to benefit the clients of AIDS Outreach Center.
Admission is $25 and includes food and beverages and one raffle ticket. Additional raffle tickets are available for $5 each, or five tickets for $20.
McCullough will be guest preacher at Cathedral of Hope’s Family Day service
The Rev. Amanda McCullough, senior pastor of St. Jude’s Metropolitan Community Church in Wilmington, N.C., will be the special guest preacher at Cathedral of Hope on Sunday, June 10, as part of the church’s observance of “Family Day.”
McCullough will preach at the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. services.
“Family Day” originated at Cathedral of Hope several years ago as a more progressive way in addition to the traditional Mother’s Day and Father’s Day celebrations to celebrate families in a broader sense, church officials said in a statement released this week.
McCullough, originally from the United Kingdom, was baptized into the Church of England, confirmed into the Church of Wales and studied for her first degree at a Methodist College. A former investment broker, she holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music and Environmental Studies from the University of London, and a diploma in Management Studies from Kingston Polytechnic.
McCullough did her seminary training at La Sainte Union and Samaritan College. She has been St. Jude’s senior pastor since 1998. McCullough had a baby girl named Katy two years ago, and she and her partner, Pilar, are planning Katy’s second birthday.
Cathedral of Hope is located at 5910 Cedar Springs Road. Services are open to all.
Turtle Creek Chorale set to perform at Highland Park Whole Foods anniversary
The Turtle Creek Chorale will perform at Whole Foods Market of Highland Park on Saturday, June 9, during the store’s fifth anniversary celebration.
The store has agreed to donate 5 percent of its sales on Tuesday, June 12, to the chorale.
Karen Lukin, community relations coordinator for Whole Foods Market, said the company wants to support the chorale’s programming.
“We chose Turtle Creek Chorale for our community giving day because they continually provide quality performances for our community, and we wanted to honor Dr. Tim Seelig as he retires,” Lukin said.
Store team leader Crista Curtis said the anniversary celebration is an opportunity to give back to the community.
“It’s astonishing that we’ve been part of this vibrant neighborhood for five years,” Curtis said. “We have truly enjoyed the relationships we’ve established and look forward to continued involvement with our community in the future.
The celebration on Saturday will include food, a giant birthday cake and entertainment. It will be held from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The Highland Park store is located at 4100 Lomo Alto Drive. Call 214-520-7993 for information.
Dallas theater favorites to present special cabaret performance to benefit charity
Award-winning Dallas musical theater performers Denise Lee and Gary Floyd will pool their talents on Friday, June 8, for a one-night-only evening of cabaret at Creekside on Forest to benefit Together We Can, the organization the two co-founded to raise funds and awareness for different projects throughout the world.
The event begins at 7 p.m. and all seats are $15. Creekside on Forest, the new performance space at Unity Church of Dallas, is located at 6525 Forest Lane.
Lee has worked onstage with WaterTower Theatre, Uptown Players, Casa Manana, Dallas Theatre Center and Shakespeare Festival of Dallas, as well as in film, television, clubs and recording studios.
Floyd has traveled the world with several bands and as a solo performer, recorded four CDs and expanded into musical theater.
