Leather association presents $2,400 to gay and lesbian community center

The National Leather Association – Dallas presented a donation of $2,400 to the John D. Thomas Gay and Lesbian Community Center at the leather group’s general monthly meeting on Tuesday. The organization also presented a $1,000 donation to Dallas Boys of Leather and a $500 donation to the Dandelion Animal Rescue.

Texas governor candidate to address Stonewall Democrats of Dallas

Bob Gammage, a candidate for Texas governor in the Democratic Party primary, will speak to Stonewall Democrats of Dallas on Jan. 14 during the group’s endorsement meeting.

The meeting will be held at the John D. Thomas Gay and Lesbian Community Center. It will start at noon.

It will be the first time for a Texas governor’s candidate to attend the gay political group’s endorsement meeting.

Gammage told the Stonewall Advocate, the group’s newsletter, that he voted against Proposition 2.

Gammage is a former Texas Supreme Court judge.

One of his opponents, former Congressman Chris Bell, of Houston, spoke to the group in July.

Evangelist returning from South Africa to speak at Sanctuary of Love

The Rev. Joan Wakeford will speak to the congregation of the Sanctuary of Love on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. in celebration of the church’s 6th anniversary.

Wakeford, who has been a minister for 50 years, just returned from South Africa where she preached in several cities. She was born in South Africa.

She was an evangelist in Japan for several years and was an associate pastor of the Metropolitan Community church of Dallas for 14 years.

She has a home in Bastrop.

The church is located in the back building of 3917 N. Hall St.
