New group for HIV-positive black men is formed, will meet twice monthly
“The Group,” a new organization for black men who are HIV-positive has been formed, promising “no fear, no hiding, no pain, more life.”

Phil Johnson Archives, Library fall book sale continues through weekend
The Resource Center of Dallas’ Phil Johnson Archives and Research Library continues its fall book sale through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. The sale will be held at the John Thomas Gay and Lesbian Community Center, 2701 Reagan St., on Friday, and in front of the Nelson-Tebedo Health Resource Center, 4012 Cedar Springs Road, on Saturday.
All proceeds benefit the library and archives.
Warren to be featured at UNT’s 3rd annual Diverse Women’s Seminar
Patricia Nell Warren, author of the ground-breaking gay novels “The Front Runner” and “Harlan’s Race” and the forthcoming book “The Lavender Locker Room,” will be moderator of the University of North Texas’ third annual Diverse Women’s Seminar on Friday, in the Silver Eagle Suite of the UNT University Union. The theme of the seminar is “On the Job: Employment Issues for Women who are Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and their Allies.”
Featured speakers will include Dr. Karen DePauw and Dr. Shelli Fowler.

Dragonflies offer presentation on legal issues for LGBT community
Dragonflies of Dallas, a social and support group for LGBT Asians and Pacific Islanders, will present a seminar entitled “Gay + Legal: The Law and How it Affects You,” at the group’s mixer on Saturday.
The event begins at 6 p.m. at the Resource Center of Dallas, 2701 Reagan St. It will feature a moderated panel of three lawyers answering questions and providing information on current legal issues affecting the LGBT community. Admission is free.

Angel Adventure 5K set to raise funds for brain tumor research
The National Brain Tumor Foundation will holds its first Dallas-Fort Worth Angel Adventure 5K fundraising walk on Saturday at Trinity Park in Fort Worth.
The event will include an opening program with registration beginning at 8 a.m. on the day of the event.
The registration fee is $25 for adults over 18, $15 for students ages 6 to 17, and free for children 5 and under. Adult participants are asked to raise at least $250. Prizes will be awarded to the top fundraising individual and the top fundraising team.

Faith Hospice presents “Sacred Dying: A Workshop for Those Helping People at the End of Life” from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Nov. 11 at the hospice’s main office, 6100 Colwell Blvd., Suite 225 in Irving.
Cost is $75 with CEU certification, $50 without certification and $40 for students. Fee includes lunch for those who register by Nov. 1.

Women’s Chorus of Dallas plans auction offering ride in a MIG jet
A ride in a restored Russian MIG military training jet, a weekend getaway via Southwest Airlines and dinners at some of Dallas’ top restaurants are just a few of the items that will be up for auction at Gifts & Glitter, an event on Nov. 18 at the Women’s Museum in Fair Park that will benefit The Women’s Chorus of Dallas.
Other auction items already confirmed are a dinner with Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez, a Pomeranian mix puppy, professional services such as life coaching, legal services and Spanish lessons, theater tickets and sports tickets. The event will also include a buffet dinner, a cash bar and entertainment by The Women’s Chorus.

Ryan Place homes on Candlelight Christmas tour in Fort Worth
Four private homes will be decorated for the holidays and open to visitors for A Candlelight Christmas in Ryan Place, the annual holiday home tour in the Fort Worth neighborhood.
The tour takes place Dec. 1 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., Dec. 2 from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Dec. 3 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. A bus will run between the homes to make the tour easier, and horse-drawn-carriage rides will be available for an additional price. Advance tickets are $12 and are available now at all Tom Thumb grocery stores, The Butler’s Antiques and Uniques, the Old Neighborhood Grill and Old Home Supply.
