A Sister’s Gift holds “‘Faces Remembered’; 1K walk to raise money for AIDS
A Sister’s Gift, a nonprofit organization that raises money for AIDS services and programs, presents its second annual “Faces Remembered” 1K walk/run Saturday at 9 a.m. at Reverchon Park. The event raises money for families and children impacted by HIV and helps create community awareness about AIDS.
Those who want to participate can register for a $15 fee to receive a t-shirt and be eligible for prizes.
Programs of A Sister’s Gift are sponsored in part by the Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS, the city of Dallas South Dallas Fair Park Trust Fund and AbbottVirology. All donations are tax deductible.

Unity Church presents interfaith “‘Abraham’s Path’ for peace, tolerance
Unity Church of Dallas will hold an interfaith gathering Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. to affirm and celebrate shared histories, traditions and beliefs, in conjunction with the international Abraham’s Path Initiative, which is “dedicated to uplifting the human consciousness and building peace in the Holy Land and at home by opening hearts to the love and wisdom of all spiritual beliefs.”
The Abraham Path Initiative was founded by leaders from three religions that trace their roots to the patriarch Abraham: Judaism, Christianity and Islam.
They have been joined by representatives of many other faiths who share a commitment to healing religious conflicts across the planet through this effort.

Library offers gay and lesbian program series beginning Sept. 16
The Dallas Public Library’s Gay and Lesbian Program Series begins at 2 p.m. Sept. 16 at the Oak Lawn Branch Library, 4100 Cedar Springs Road, with a workshop on how to interact with the media, presented by Tom Ogletree, Southwest Region media manager for the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. Ogletree will teach participants how to ensure fair representation of LGBT issues in the media.
Upcoming sessions include meetings on immigration equality on Oct. 14 at the Central Library, 1515 Young St. Jonathan Boarman, chapter coordinator for the North Central Texas Chapter of Immigration Equality, and John A. Nechman, a lawyer specializing in immigration issues, will speak on immigration issues that affect the LGBT community. A session in English begins at 1:30 p.m., followed at 3 p.m. by a session in Spanish.
Dr. Rafael Campo, who teaches and practices general medicine at Harvard Medical School and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston presents “Poetry and Medicine with Rafael Campo” on Nov. 18 at 2 p.m. at the Oak Lawn Branch Library.
The “Out at the Library” traveling exhibit from the archives of the James C. Hormel Gay and Lesbian Center at the San Francisco Public Library will be on display at the Oak Lawn branch Library from Feb. 5 through April 7.
Controversial bishop John Shelby Spong to visit Dallas
The Cathedral of Hope and Unity Church of Dallas is proud to present Bishop John Shelby Spong in an extended weekend of events, including two performances of “A Pebble in My Shoe: The Life and Times of John Shelby Spong,” at 8 p.m. on Sept. 15 and 16, at Unity Church of Dallas, 6525 Forest Lane.
Tickets are $20 and are available at Unity Church of Dallas and Cathedral of Hope.
Bishop Spong will be guest preacher at the Cathedral of Hope’s morning message at the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. services Sept. 17.On Sept. 18 at 7 p.m., Bishop Spong will present “The Sins of Scripture” at Unity Church of Dallas. The cost for this workshop is $25.
Immigration Equality presents book-signing event for author Tim Miller
The North Central Texas Chapter of Immigration Equality presents a book-signing event for Tim Miller, author of “1001 Beds: Performances, Essays and Travels” (edited by Glen Johnson), from 7 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Sept. 16 at the Borders Book Store, 3600 McKinney Ave. A reception will follow at Ferre’s Restaurant.
