Jubilee Fellowship Church opens new thrift store in Mesquite
Jubilee Fellowship, the DFW Metroplex’s only fully GLBT affirming and inclusive Apostolic Pentecostal Church, has acquired the 2,000 square foot space at 3911 Casa Ridge Drive, directly beside it’s present sanctuary in Mesquite.
Jubilee Fellowship will be reopening its Thrift Shop, as well as opening and Affirming Christian Bookstore/Library called the ARC (Apostolic Resource Center).
It will also house their new fellowship area for various functions and meals. Donations are immediately welcome. You may either bring them by or call 214-282-0192 to arrange pickup. Gay business group schedules happy hour at Sushi Sapporo
High Tech Happy Hour, a community service by TI-LEGEND, Texas Instruments’ GLBT employees’ organization, will be held on September 8 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Sushi Sapporo, 3211 Oak Lawn Ave. The event is open to all.
Controversial bishop schedules appearance at Cathedral of Hope
The Cathedral of Hope and Unity Church of Dallas is proud to present Bishop John Shelby Spong in an extended weekend of events, including two performances of “A pebble in my Shoe: The Life and Times of John Shelby Spong,” at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, September 15 and 16.
Written and directed by Colin Cox, “A pebble in my Shoe” is a live theatrical performance that opened to critical acclaim in Los Angeles in 2005.

“A Pebble in My Shoe” is a drama about the achievements of Bishop Spong, who ordained the first openly gay priest in the Episcopal Church in the United States and the first women priest in England.
Bishop Spong will attend both performances and will offer the Cathedral of Hope’s morning message on Sunday, September 17 at the 9 and 11 a.m. services as part of the church’s observance of the lesbian and gay Pride festival in Dallas. The services are free and open to all.
The Cathedral of Hope is located at 5910 Cedar Springs Road.
On Monday, September 18 at 7 p.m., Bishop Spong will present “The Sins of Scripture” at Unity Church of Dallas. The cost for this workshop is $25.
United Court presents 10th “‘Friends Helping Friends’ benefit show
Empress Donna Dumae and the United Court of the Lone Star Empire presents the tenth annual “Friends Helping Friends” benefit show for AIDS Services of Dallas on Sunday at 8 p.m. at the Dallas Eagle, 2515 Inwood Road.
Stonewall Democrats of Collin County to meet at La Madeleine
The next general meeting of the Stonewall Democrats of Collin County will be held on Thursday, September 14 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at La Madeleine, located at 5000 W. Park at Preston Road in Plano.
Guest Speaker will be Sharon Rowe, an Elections Administrator for Collin County. She will discuss the mechanics of elections and all Collin County residents in attendance will become Deputy Voter Registrars.
Legacy of Success presents 2nd annual “‘Bowl-a-Thon’
Legacy of Success Foundation’s second annual Bowl-a-Thon will be held October 14 from 2-4 p.m. at 300 Dallas (formerly AMF Fun Fest), located at 3805 Beltline Road in Addison. A team consists of four players entered in a Round Robin Tournament.

Valiente announces to hold 1st Hispanic Heritage Month
Valiente, Dallas/Fort Worth’s premier Latino LGBT group will host its first ever Hispanic Heritage Month commemoration in the Metroplex from a gay Latin point of view.
The group will host a series of events showcasing Latino work in film, art and poetry, as well as a kick-off celebration and meet-ups with influential Latinos.

Unity Church of Dallas plans to host interfaith gathering
Unity Church of Dallas is hosting a gathering of representatives from many faiths on Sept. 10 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. to affirm and celebrate shared histories, traditions and beliefs.
The event is tied to the international Abraham’s Path Initiative, which is dedicated to “uplifting the human consciousness and building peace in the Holy Land, and at home, by opening hearts to the love and wisdom of all spiritual traditions.”
The Abraham Path Initiative was cofounded by leaders from the three religions that trace their roots to the patriarch Abraham: Judaism, Islam and Christianity. They have been joined by representatives of many other faiths that share a commitment to healing religious conflicts across the planet.
The Initiative is committed to creating an Abraham Path that will allow pilgrims to retrace the route of Abraham and his extended family from Harran, in present-day Turkey, through Syria, Jordan, Israel and Palestine, ending at the Tomb of Abraham in al-Khalil/Hebron.
The Sept. 10 event is intended to promote the Initiative. Representatives of several Dallas-area religious centers will form a miniature version of the Abraham Path on the Unity Church of Dallas grounds.
Guests will be invited to make the symbolic journey from one spiritual oasis to another, culminating in a combined ceremony, concert and potluck lunch in Unity Fellowship Hall.
“Affirming an underlying unity among the religious factions in the Middle East has never been more challenging,” said Rev. Ed Townley, associate minister of Unity Church. “We believe that the Abraham Path Initiative will provide a channel through which people of all faiths, all over the world, can make a statement that spiritual principles of respect and right-living common to all faiths are more important than the religious differences that seem to separate us.”
