Miss Leo pageant, party scheduled to benefit AIDS Arms day care center

The 19th annual Miss Leo Party and Pageant begins at 9 p.m. Saturday at the Hidden Door, 5025 Bowser Ave.

The event was started by a group of men to raise money for the Daire Center, an adult day care center for people with HIV that was previously operated by Oak Lawn Community Services and is now operated by AIDS Arms. Last year’s event raised a record $12,000.

High-Tech Happy Hour to offer “‘Dating Dots’ mixer

The High Tech Happy Hour for August is set for Aug. 11, at Monica’s Aca Y Alla, 2914 Main St. in Deep Ellum.

The event will be held in the side party room, with its own bar area, and will include the “Dating Dots” mixer usually held in February, where participants place color-coded dots on their name tags to denote their availability and interest in finding a date.

Participating in the “Dating Dots” activities is not required to attend the event.

Friends of IANDS offer seminar on near-death experiences

Friends of IANDS (International Association for Near-Death Studies) Dallas-Fort Worth will present the seminar “Is Goodbye Forever: Near-Death Experience, After-Death Communication and the Survival of Consciousness” on Aug. 12 from noon to 6 p.m. at Cathedral of Light, 2040 N. Denton Drive in Carrollton.

The event will feature Jan Holden, a near-death experience expert, counseling professor at the University of North Texas and president of IANDS; theologian and licensed professional counselor Graham Maxey; and psychic medium Shannon Maxey.

The event is free, but those attending are asked to make a tax-deductible donation of $25 or more to IANDS.

Organizers of the upcoming sixth annual wine tasting and silent auction event to benefit the Shared Housing Center are now seeking sponsors and silent auction item donations for the event, set for Sept. 21, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Jeroboam, 1501 Main St. in Dallas.

Sponsorships are available at levels ranging from $1,000 to $10,000.

Gay and Lesbian Fund names Parkland Foundation as beneficiary

The Gay and Lesbian Fund for Dallas has named the Parkland Foundation, on behalf of the Parkland Health and Hospital System as beneficary of the fund’s fourth annual fundraising event, scheduled for March 24, 2007, officials announced this week.

Mark Neirmann, of the two co-founders of the funding group, applauded Parkland for recognizing the diverse population by offering employment and medical services to all people.

“We are happy to help them continue their great progress,” Niermann said.
