LULAC, Valiente hold event to help buy uniforms, supplies for students

The League of United Latin American Citizens Council 4844 and Valiente, a GLBT Latino organization in Dallas, will hold an event at Havana Restaurant, 4006 Cedar Springs Road, on Friday at 8 p.m. to raise money for students at Lipscomb Elementary School.

Admission is a suggested donation of at least $10 at the door. Items donated by local businesses will be raffled during the event. Proceeds will be used to help purchase school supplies and uniforms for students at the school, which has been adopted by LULAC Council 4844 and Valiente.

Miss AIDS Interfaith Network Pageant set Sunday at Round-Up Saloon

The second annual Miss AIDS Interfaith Network Pageant begins at 8 p.m. Sunday at the Round-Up Saloon, 3912 Cedar Springs Road. The pageant is open to male-as-female entertainers and real women, and is a preliminary to the Miss Charity America Pageant.

The reigning Mr. and Miss. Charity America titleholders, Todd Cleveland and Mackenzie Storm, will be masters of ceremonies. Kiara Jacobs, the reigning Miss AIN, is coordinating the pageant.

Proceeds from the pageant, including tips given to the performers, will benefit the AIDS Interfaith Network.

Tickets available for Lightning Bowl fundraiser for Big D Classic tournament

Tickets are available for Lightning Bowl, a fundraising event to kick off the fifth annual Big D Classic bowling tournament in August.

Lightning Bowl registration begins at 8 p.m. on Aug. 11 at USA Bowl, 10920 Composite Drive. The $20 fee includes three games of bowling, cash and prize giveaways and a 50/50 raffle. Proceeds go to the Big D Classic tournament, which selected AIDS Interfaith Network as this year’s beneficiary.

The Big D Classic, also at USA Bowl, is scheduled Aug. 12-13, beginning at 9 a.m. both days. The tournament concludes with an awards banquet at the Round-Up.

Revamped local Out and Equal chapter to elect new regional council Tuesday

Out and Equal DFW will elect a new regional council Tuesday.

The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. with and meet and greet session for candidates for the council.

The local chapter was formed in 2004, but coordinators recently reorganized it to attract a larger and more diverse membership.
