Johnson Archives offers exhibit on Team Dallas uniforms to mark sports events

The Phil Johnson Historic Archives and Research Library has assembled an exhibit titled “Team Dallas Well Dressed,” in conjunction with the opening Saturday of the Gay Games VII Sports and Cultural Festival and the 2006 World Outgames.

The exhibit, on view through Aug. 15 at the John Thomas Gay and Lesbian Community Center, includes original team uniforms, medals, pins and memorabilia from previous Gay Games. Narrative for the exhibit was written by Johnson himself, a perennial Gay Games competitor and, at 81, among the oldest.

The exhibit may be viewed during regular operating hours at the community center, 2701 Reagan St. The lending library hours are subject to change. Call 214-528-0144 for information.

Life coach Ward to speak at MCC of Greater Dallas on power of being out

Honey Ward, a life coach and leader of The Experience workshops, will be the guest speaker at the Metropolitan Community Church of Greater Dallas on July 23. Ward will speak at the church’s 10 a.m. worship service.

Ward and the Rev. Colleen Darraugh, the church’s lead pastor, will engage in dialogue on being out and living powerfully in a society that GLBT people often find challenging and sometimes threatening.

Ward will also facilitate the church’s monthly sessions of “Leadership Engaged” on July 22. The half-day session is designed for the church’s board members and lay leaders.

Ward has been a facilitator for The Experience and its related programs since 1987.

Stonewall Democrats of Dallas’ first “judicial happy hour” will be held on July 27, 5:30-7:30 p.m., at JR.’s Bar and Grill, 3923 Cedar Springs Road. An item in the July 7 issue misstated the date of the event as July 22. Stonewall officials acknowledged that their press release contained the error.
