Cathedral to host special service Dec. 20, four on Christmas Eve
The Cathedral of Hope will hold four Christmas Eve services on Thursday, Dec. 24, plus a special service Sunday, Dec. 20 for those who might already be out of town on Christmas Eve.
The Christmas Eve observances begin at 5 p.m. with a special service created for children and their families. A Servicio Litúrgico en Español will be offered at 7 p.m. by the church’s Congregación Latina. Traditional candlelight services will be held at 9 p.m. and 11 p.m., with rector and senior pastor the Rev. Jo Hudson offering "Finding Christ" as the Christmas Eve message.
The music, which will include congregational singing of familiar carols, will be led by the church’s Sanctuary Choir and Orchestra, and will feature guest soloist Anton Shaw. Communion will be served.
The Sunday service will be "A Traveler’s Christmas Eve," beginning at 6 p.m. and featuring Voices of Hope, the church’s contemporary vocal ensemble, as well as a time of communion and the lighting of candles.
The service will be followed by the second annual "Christmas Cookie Caper," a benefit for the Cathedral of Hope’s outreach and benevolence ministries.
The Cathedral of Hope is located at 5910 Cedar Springs Road. The services are free and open to all.
RCD adds 5 to board of directors, which expands to 17 members
Resource Center Dallas has recently added five new members to its board of directors, expanding it to 17 members. The new members are Renee Becker; Dr. David M. Lee, Maeve O’Connor, Dee Pennington and Dr. Chris Vesy. Becker and Lee joined the board in October, O’Connor in November, Pennington in December, and Vesy in August.
Becker is a human resources and finance professional with PepsiCo. Her responsibilities include managing human resources operations for the PepsiCo corporate division as well as HR budgets for IT training programs, and diversity and inclusion employee resource groups.
Lee is an internal medicine and HIV specialist with Uptown Physicians Group in Dallas. He serves as the medical director for AIDS Services of North Texas in Denton and the Lone Star Ride Fighting AIDS.
O’Connor is a telecommunications professional. She is a member of the steering committee for GEAR, the center’s transgender program.
Pennington is the president and chief executive officer of the Dallas Credit Union and has served in that role since 2004. That same year, she was the grand marshal of the Alan Ross Texas Freedom Parade. Pennington also hosts Chick Happy Hour, a women’s monthly social event.
Vesy is a gastroenterologist with Texas Digestive Disease Consultants in Dallas. This article appeared in the Dallas Voice print edition December 18, 2009.
