Denton County Health Department Seeks input on HIV website
The Denton County Health Department is seeking input from the public on the design for the department’s website on HIV and other sexually-transmitted diseases, now in development.

The health department is looking for suggestions on what information should be included and what content would be useful. Suggestions can be e-mailed to dchd306@yahoo.com.

Hughes, music minister at Washington church, to appear at MCC of Greater Dallas
Shirli Hughes, minister of music at the Metropolitan Community Church-D.C., will be guest music director at the 10 a.m. service on Mother’s Day at The Metropolitan Community Church of Greater Dallas. The special Mother’s Day service will include a catered lunch free to all mothers and $10 for others after the service.

Hughes will also lead a free singing clinic on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Metropolitan Community Church of Greater Dallas is located at 2735 Villa Creek Drive, Ste. 290. The Rev. Colleen Darraugh is lead pastor.

Operation Kindness holding “‘Mega Yard Sale’ to benefit animal shelter
Operation Kindness will hold a “Mega Yard Sale” with more than 1,000 new and used items on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its Sarah M. and Charles E. Seay Animal Shelter at 3201 Earhart Drive in Carrollton.

Proceeds from the sale will be used to care for the dogs and cats at the no-kill shelter.

Items in the sale include a queen-size sleigh bed, a white wicker headboard, dressers, tables, a roll-top desk with a chair, a large dining table with eight chairs, a leather sofa, a 13-inch color TV, a refrigerator, a Toshiba copier, fitness equipment, children’s toys, books, bicycles, lamps, ceiling fans, dishes, kitchenware, household items, artwork, lawn equipment, luggage and pet items.

Latino talk show seeking gays, lesbians previously in straight marriages
“El Show de Cristina,” a Latino talk show produced by Univision and filmed in Miami, is seeking same-sex couples in which one or both partners were previously married to someone of the opposite sex but left their spouses after coming out, to participate in a show to be taped May 24 in Miami.

The talk show producers are also seeking heterosexuals who under their former spouses’ need to break off the marriage and are supportive.

The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation is working with producers of the show to make sure the subject and participants are treated with respect.

Participants do not have to be Latinos but must speak fluent Spanish.

Democratic Party chair candidates to speak to Stonewall Democrats
The interim chair of the Texas Democratic Party, Boyd Richie, and Glen Maxey, candidates for the party chairmanship, will be featured speakers at the May general meeting of Stonewall Democrats of Dallas on Tuesday at Ojeda’s Restaurant, 4617 Maple Ave.

A third candidate, Charlie Jones of San Antonio, had not confirmed his attendance at the meeting as of press time.

The party chair election will be held during the Texas Democratic Convention June 8-10 in Fort Worth.

Richie was unanimously elected as interim party chair by party leaders on April 22 to replace outgoing chair Charles Soechting. Richie is a lifelong Texan who has practiced law for 35 years and is currently serving his third term as county attorney for Young County.

Maxey was the first executive director of the Lesbian/Gay Rights Lobby of Texas – now Equality Texas and the first openly gay person elected to the Texas Legislature. He also served as coordinator of the No Nonsense in November campaign staged last year against the anti-gay-marriage amendment. Maxey has worked on numerous political campaigns throughout his career and is now political director for Democracy for Texas.

Gay Democrats holding viewing party for “‘Will and Grace’ finale
Stonewall Democrats of Dallas will hold a viewing party for the series of finale of “Will and Grace” on May 18 at the Angelika Theater, 5321 E. Mockingbird Lane. Seating begins at 6:30 p.m.

Big Muscle Weekend fitness event scheduled to benefit Resource Center
The Big Muscle Weekend, a two-day Flex Fitness event, benefiting the Resource Center of Dallas, begins May 20 with an autograph signing party from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at TapeLenders Video, 3926 Cedar Springs Road, featuring Colt Studios adult video stars Luke Garret and Gage Weston.

Garret and Weston will appear at Woody’s Sports and Video Bar, 4011 Cedar Springs Road, from 8 p.m. to midnight where they will be hosts for the Flex Fitness Trainer Auction. The auction will feature five personal trainers with various packages from Flex Fitness, a personal training studio with two Dallas locations.

The packages to be auctioned will include one month of personal training, videos, clothing and other items.

The weekend event continues May 21 when Garret and Weston and the men of Flex Fitness appear at Dallas Eagle, 2515 Inwood Road No. 107, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. for another trainer auction and Colt Studio giveaways.

The Big Muscle Weekend is being co-sponsored by BigMuscle.com and BigMuscle-Bears.com.

Resource Center set to hold second annual Summer Strut Home Tour in June
The Resource Center of Dallas will hold its second annual Summer Strut Home Tour from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on June 4 in the historic Greenway Parks neighborhood.

The event, which raised more than $12,000 for the Resource Center last year, will feature seven homes, including one noted by D Home Magazine to be the city’s most architecturally significant home. Hors d’ouevres and beverages are included. Sponsors include the Texas Gay Rodeo Association, Mary Stewart Hall and Nancy McCaskell and Urban Edge Developers.
