LaTour to speak at CoH

Breast cancer survivor Kathy LaTour will speak Sunday, May 9, at the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. services at Cathedral of Hope, 5910 Cedar Springs Road. Resounding Harmong, Dallas’ newest community chorus, will be the special musical guest at both services.
LaTour was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1986 and has been active in the cancer survivor community, both locally and nationally, ever since. She has been on the board of the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship and was founding board president of The Bridge Breast Center. LaTour was also founding president of the board for Gilda’s Club North Texas.
LaTour published her book, "The Breast Cancer Companion," in 1993. She and her daughter Kirtley narrated "Sing for the Cure" in 2000, and in 2004, she premiered her one-woman show, "One Mutant Cell," in Dallas to benefit Gilda’s Club. She has since performed the show in more than 50 cities.
Resounding Harmony, conducted by Timothy Seelig, has raised more than $100,000 for local charitable groups. The group will sing a selection from "Sing for the Cure," which will be performed in its entirety on Wednesday, May 12, at the Meyerson Symphony Center.
Mr. IGRA candidate hosting benefit
Jody Harvey, a candidate for Mr. International Gay Rodeo Association 2011 and the current Mr. Texas Gay Rodeo Association, will host the "Guys N Gear Underwear Auction on Saturday, May 15, at 7 p.m. at The Hidden Door, 5025 Bowser St.
One of the requirements for Mr. IGRA candidates is to hold fundraising events for area organizations, and Harvey said this event will be a fundraiser for TGRA.
