CoH marks end of first phase of construction of peace chapel
Cathedral of Hope and Hope for Peace & Justice will celebrate the completion of the first stage of construction on the Interfaith Peace Chapel on Wednesday, April 14, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the chapel site outside Cathedral of Hope at 5910 Cedar Springs Road.
The three final major pieces of steel for the structure will be topped off at 6:30 p.m. during the celebration, which will be free and open to the public. Guests will be able to sign the steel beams with well-wishes and memories, a meal will be available for a suggested donation of $10.
AIN announces Personal Philanthropy as event sponsor
PersonalPhilanthropy.org, a nonprofit that works to alleviate poverty in developing countries, has signed on as a sponsor of AIDS Interfaith Network’s 2010 "Bloomin’ Ball … sowing seeds of hope" fundraiser, officials have announced.
PersonalPhilanthropy.org is a nonprofit social enterprise that works to address poverty by "helping people and brands connect with sustainable development projects in developing countries."
PersonalPhilanthropy.org founder Mark Regouby said his organization will use the Bloomin’ Ball sponsorship to launch the "Run with a Purpose" campaign through which participants can join a luxury tour of Northern Spain that culminates with a visit to the annual Running of the Bulls in Pamplona July 11-15.
He said 10 percent of the tour price for "Run with a Purpose" will be donated to AIN.
Bloomin’ Ball will be held Saturday, April 24, at Westin Park Central hotel. A VIP reception and auction preview begins at 6 p.m., followed at 6:30 p.m. by the general reception and silent auction. Dinner follows the silent auction and will include entertainment, a live auction and the presentation of the Crystal Hope Award. VIP tickets are $100, and general seating is $75, and seating at both levels is limited. Sponsorships are also available, starting at $1,000 for a table of eight.

Texas health department renews H1N1 vaccine recommendation
Texas Department of State Health Services Commissioner Dr. David Lakey recommends that people who have not already been vaccinated for H1N1 flu should still get the vaccine.
Lakey said that there is plenty of vaccine to go around. The Centers for Disease Control has allocated 11 million doses to Texas.
The Walgreens at 3802 Cedar Springs Road at Oak Lawn Avenue offers the vaccine. A pharmacist in the store said that an appointment was not necessary.
