Words of Women winner to speak at International Women’s Day event
Words of Women, in conjunction with Peacemaker Inc., presents the eighth annual International Women’s Day celebration at the Women’s Museum: An Institute for the Future, on Saturday, March 13, from noon to 4 p.m.

The event will include the presentation of the winner of the 10th annual Words of Women essay contest, speakers, music, entertainment, cultural exhibits and food.
Maggie Holman, 2009 Words of Women contest winner, will participate, along with other former contest winners, Sheriff Lupe Valdez and Dallas City Councilwoman Delia Jasso. Entertainment will be provided by MosaicSong, Septien Entertainment Group, Shelly Torres-West, The Mercies, Urban Uke, Hawaiian dancers and Caitlyn Lacy Wright. The movie "Pray the Devil Back to Hell," about Liberian women, will screen at 2:30 p.m.

United Court holding show to raise funds for Easter event at ASD
The United Court of the Lone Star Empire and Emperor XXIV John Terrill will present the 13th Annual Hoppy Easter show benefiting AIDS Services of Dallas on Saturday, March 20, at 8 p.m. at Illusions Dallas, 4100 Maple Ave.

Proceeds from the event will be used to prepare Easter baskets for children living in ASD facilities, and for the annual barbecue luncheon prepared and served by Court members and open to all the residents at ASD. The barbecue will be held Saturday, April 3, the day before Easter Sunday, at 11 a.m. outside ASD’s Hillcrest house. The Easter baskets will be handed out during the luncheon.


ASD’s No Tie Dinner set for March 27; dessert party at Flight Museum
AIDS Services of Dallas’ No Tie Dinner and Dessert Party will be held on Saturday, March 27.

Dinners will be held in the homes of individual sponsors and hosts earlier in the evening, with guests asked for a donation, suggested minimum $40. Then sponsors, hosts and their dinner guests are asked to move to the Frontiers of Flight Museum, 6911 Lemmon Ave., at 8 p.m. for the dessert party, a silent auction and dancing. Dessert party tickets are $40. Honorary co-chairs are Patricia Deason and David Nelson.

Free HIV testing available in Tarrant County in March
Free and confidential HIV testing will be available at various locations in Tarrant County throughout the month of March, and those tested will receive a ticket to the Celebration 4 Life hip-hop concert set for April 3 at the Fort Worth Convention Center Ballroom.

Testing sites and dates are:
• Tarrant County Sub Courthouse, Precinct #1, 3500 Miller Ave., Fort Worth, Sataurday March 13, noon-5 p.m.

• Boys and Girls Club, 5021 Avenue G, Fort Worth, March 19, noon-5 p.m.
• Sycamore Community Center, 2525 East Rosedale St., Fort Worth, March 27, noon-5 p.m.
