Affirmation’s former national director organizes new chapter

Members and friends of Affirmation Gay & Lesbian Mormons in the Metroplex will gather this month for the first time in at least 20 years.

The meeting will be on Sunday, Nov. 11 at 6 p.m. in the Oak Lawn area.

Those who attended the national Affirmation meeting held in Washington, D.C. in early October will give reports on the meeting, which was attended by gay Episcopal Bishop Gene Robinson and some well-known Mormons, including Carol Lynn Pearson.

The Nov. 11 meeting will also include time for discussion of formally re-organizing a local Affirmation chapter. Anyone with a LDS or RLDS background, without regard to their church status or activity, and their friends are encouraged to attend.

Affirmation was founded in 1977 as a spiritual and social support group.

It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the LDS church. Information is available online at Affirmation.org.

Rusty Lane, who served as the national director in 1988 and has lived in Dallas for the past year is organizing the Nov. 11 meeting.

All those interested in attending are asked to RSVP no later than Thursday, Nov. 8, by phone at 214-520-3747 or by e-mail at DFWAffirmation@gmail.com.
