What a coincidence! Queer Liberaction plans a Queer Kiss-In this weekend in Dallas, and “Paul Blart: Mall Cop” is coming off a two-week run atop the Box Office.
Right on cue, we have this story from The San Antonio Express-News about a lesbian couple that was arrested after kissing at a local mall.
OMG. How perfect. HAHA!
oh, btw… the thing that is perfect is the timing of the kiss in… =P just to clarify!
And just what law were these two breaking?
It’s obvious that they broke some imaginary law. The cop was imagining a hot lesbian porn scene in his head and that’s illegal!

according to the article they were violating the code of conduct. apparently they were sitting on a bench with their legs touching and one of them kissed the other on the cheek. the security guy told them that they had to leave. they left but went back in the mall at a different exit bc their car was parked on the other side of the mall and they didnt want to have to walk all the way around the outside of the mall. security saw them back in the mall and had them arrested for trespassing.
The Queer kiss-in is all about having fun and being visible but this story underscores the importance of events like the one Queer Liberaction will be holding this coming Saturday. The couple’s behavior at the mall displays their false sense of security. Clearly the couple was not out of bounds with their PDA, but it looks as though the couple thought they were in a less homophobic environment than they really were.
Often times GLBT folk go about their daily business feeling pretty much on par with our heterosexual neighbors. This is just another shocking reminder that we aren’t equals and that we are second class.
Visibility is important for any civil rights movement, but especially important for our civil rights movement. This is true because unlike Women or African Americans many of us can construct and deconstruct closets at will. Coming out and staying out and showing the larger society that LGBT people are part of this society has to be a fundamental aspect of our movement if we hope to win any form or equality or protections anytime soon.
That’s why I think the Queer Kiss-in will not only be a blast but it will be very important as well.
Those poor dilusional lesbians. How dare they try to live a normal life! Blake, I get your point and I understand that we have a long way to go before people are comfortable with anything related to same-sex issues but you blame the victim? Some of us can’t live our lives in paranoia, fear and anger. Always watching our backs for some scary heterosexual to come and get us. As a black from the south, I understand but sometimes it gets exhausting watching for Whitey. There comes a time when you have to trust. If blacks had remained distrusting, then we would still be hiding in the woods scared that Massa is gonna take us back to the big house.

I can see something like this happening in Dallas, where cops routinely frame and incarcerate innocent citizens, plant false evidence to support said incarcerations and subsequently and routinely misrepresent the facts to protect their fellow crooked police officers. I mean, when you Google “corruption” the first link should rightfully be the DPD website. But San Antonio? I never would have thought. Looks like they are following the example that the DPD has set for them.
