Joel Burns announced on Facebook that Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker and Dallas Mayor Pro Tem Jesse Moreno acting for Mayor Eric Johnson nominated the former Fort Worth City Councilman to the DFW Airport Board Executive Committee.

“I somewhat jokingly tell folks my board service on the DFW Airport Board is one of the best gigs I’ve ever had — we get to spend $12 Billion between now and 2032 and no one ever stops me at Walgreens to complain about their property tax rates, potholes, nor garbage collection,” he quipped on Facebook.

Burns will join the DFW Executive Committee as Board Secretary for 2026-28. With future mayors approval, he would become Board Vice Chair for 2028-30 and DFW Chairman from 2030-32.

“I am excited for the opportunity to represent Fort Worth and all of North Texas in these capacities as the world’s 3rd busiest airport (behind Dubai & Atlanta) continues to grow with expansions to Terminal A, a completely rebuilt Terminal C, and a brand new Terminal F,” he wrote. “Plus I get to work with truly the best airport staff in the world.”

And he thanked his husband J.D. Angle for allowing him the time and capacity to serve and Mayors Parker and Johnson and his fellow eight board colleagues for their confidence in him.
