Hunky’s Old Fashioned Hamburgers, established in 1984, this week announced that Larry “The Fairy” Farris is the new general manager of the iconic Gayborhood restaurant.

“Coincidentally — or perhaps fatefully — 1984 also marks the year Larry was established, making this a partnership rooted in shared history, longevity and community spirit,” noted a press release announcing Farris’ new position.

A longtime DVtv correspondent and well-known personality in the Dallas LGBTQ+ and hospitality scenes, Farris brings more than 20 years of experience in the neighborhood, restaurants and community-driven spaces to his new position. An actor, host, emcee, podcaster and advocate, Farris “has built a reputation on his own terms, blending outgoing charisma with top-notch professionalism both in front of the camera and behind the scenes,” the press release says.

Jeffery Yarbrough, Hunky’s partner, said, “Larry understands that Hunky’s is more than a restaurant; it’s a gathering place. He is deeply committed to service and the community, and that aligns perfectly with what Hunky’s has stood for since day one.”

Voted 2023 Best Local LGBTQ+ Influencer, Farris has partnered with organizations such as Live Nation, has hosted events at The Echo Lounge, has emceed Pride celebrations and consistently used his platform to uplift LGBTQ+ people, nonprofits and local causes. His community involvement includes fundraising efforts for Sam Houston Elementary students, advocacy for equality and women’s rights and organizing and supporting dog rescue initiatives.

Farris said, “I’ve spent my career creating welcoming spaces where people feel seen, safe, and celebrated. Hunky’s has always been that kind of place for Dallas. I’m honored to help carry that legacy forward while continuing to serve the neighborhood and the community that raised me.”

As general manager, Farris will oversee daily operations while focusing on guest experience, staff development and strengthening Hunky’s role as a cornerstone of Dallas culture.
