Houston Intercontinental Hotel

The 2006 board of directors for Houston Black Tie Dinner, Inc., announced this week that the annual fundraising gala will return this year to the Intercontinental Hotel.

The event is set for Nov. 4. Scott Nettles and Sydnee White, co-chairs for the dinner, said this year’s event will be “a landmark, record-breaking event, one not to be missed.”

The application process for nonprofit organizations who want to be beneficiaries of this year’s Black Tie Dinner has already begun.

To apply, official representatives of interested organizations should download an application at www.houstonblacktiedinner.org.

Completed applications must be submitted by Wednesday to Houston Black Tie Dinner, Inc., P.O. Box 131351, Houston, Texas 77219-1351.

White said this week that the Black Tie Dinner, which is itself a nonprofit organization, is intended to unite the men and women of the GLBT community of greater Houston.

“As a consolidated group and the community’s largest fundraiser, we are fighting HIV and AIDS, prejudice and discrimination, and taking a firm stand on men’s and women’s health issues,” White said.

“We are aspiring to enrich the perception others have of our community through active involvement, interest, education and dedication,” White continued.

The Houston Black Tie Dinner has raised more than $1.6 million that has been used to support “a diverse group of nonprofit organizations committed to enriching the greater Houston GLBT community.”
