The Houston Equal Rights Ordinance appears headed for defeat. Early voting numbers show opponents leading opponents by a lopsided 30 points.
In a statement, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick called the ordinance “misguided” and “pandering.” His full statement is here.
The Houston mayoral race appears to be headed to a run-off between Democrat and state Rep. Sylvester Turner, a LGBT ally, and Bill King, a former Kemah, Texas mayor who has mixed feelings on the ordinance.
Out of a field of 13 candidates, Turner finished with 31 percent and King received 25 percent. The two head to a Dec. 5 run-off.
