Where is the outrage?
According to multiple reports, Texas Republican Gov. Rick Perry has accepted an invitation to speak at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in February, thereby breaking a boycott of the conference by socially conservative groups over the inclusion of the gay group GOProud as a participating organization.
“Happy to announce that Governor Rick Perry is confirmed to speak at CPAC 2011,” the conference announced last week on its Facebook page.
According to the Washington Times, groups boycotting this year’s conference include the Heritage Foundation, the Family Research Council, the Center for Military Readiness, the American Family Association, the American Principles Project, the Liberty Counsel and the National Organization for Marriage:
“The base-line reason is that homosexuality is not a conservative value,” said Bryan Fischer, the American Family Association’s director of issue analysis. “It’s the conservative PAC, not the libertarian PAC.”
Of course, these same groups and their members have historically been among Perry’s biggest supporters, and he’s been among their strongest anti-gay allies. But now that Perry is considering running for vice president, he’s apparently willing to throw them under the bus in exchange for a high-profile speaking engagement. What’s next, accepting an award from Log Cabin Republicans? Taking a gay lover? Wait, maybe he’s already done that.
Anyhow, we’ve left a message with the governor’s press office to try to find out what in the hell he was thinking, but we haven’t heard back.
Again, we ask, where is the outrage?
In order for there to be outrage, someone has to care.
Right, nobody cares. The attitude of this author is that of other Liberal groups. ….they just like to bitch and moan. These groups know that if they acknowdge gays by speaking before them they only get ridicule or a tone such as in this writing….No matter what they do……..no matter what Rick Perry does you folks are not going to appreciate it…so why bother…..Perry extends an olive branch…..you spit in his face……others see this too and will be hesitant to reach out in the future…….your not after true acceptence anyway…you’d rather force it down everyones throat (so to speak ) …its the Lefty way.
@Bobby: I’m not so sure you are correct in your assumptions. “Once bitten, twice shy.”
I may not be correct….but it doesn’t seem like a civil thing when Perry reaches out to this group only to be ridiculed for doing so….just as he has been ridiculed for not doing so. That would led fair minded people to think its just not worth trying.
Bobby-no gay is interested in acceptance from you or anyone-that is the bigoted viewpoint-get over yourself.
Gays DEMAND full rights as granted by our constitution-so who cares what you or other bigots think? Perry deserves scrutiny-he is against gays until it becomes a question of politics-a person will never again be elected to lead this nation that is antigay-the votes just arent there. So Perry accepts gays in the room now-well, we dont accept him yet. Lets see how he does. Truth is, bigots die off-and full marriage equality is coming whether you like it or not.
I try to ignore Perry. can’t wait for his “rentboy.com scandal”.
The gay-mariage issue is a losing issue for the GOP unless they redefine the argument from pro/con gay marriage to whether government should be invovled in the marriage licensing business in the first place. By granting government the right to license marriage as it does hunting and driver’s licenses, one ultimately gives government the same power to take those licenses away. Anything government gives it can take away. It’s time to support the Government-Free Marriage movement and solve the many problems associated with government’s encroachment into private individuals’ lives.. Government-Free Marriage, an idea who’s time has come. https://www.governmentfreemarriage.com
Josh-no need to do that-gay marriage will be legal in all states in a few years-theres no stopping it
More than likely, Perry is just hoping for a blow job before he goes back to bashing us. Bobby, you might want to take your self-loathing, right-wing, Nazi loving ass to a therapist, you need help.
I agree with Josh Farmer. We do not want government in control of marriage. We need to start treating each other as humans. Government free marriage is the pathway to equality. Government should have no control over religion or marriage. Leave marriage to the religions or to the people to freely contract with one another.
So what? This is not newsworthy. Gays will NEVER be accepted by the GOP. They are just using them for votes. Don’t ever expect a GOP to care about gay rights. They are just using gay people and pretending like they care because they need the support. In a few years when the Republicans are done with their agenda they will drop us gays like yesterday news. Perry is just using the gay vote on his way to becoming King. This no peace offering. People like him don’t change. He is just doing what politicians do best–use their constituents to get the power they want, and then it will be gay voters? who is that?
