The Modern isn’t the only space in North Texas to use illuminated glass to draw in visitors. Over at the Dallas Arboretum, the exhibit of Dale Chihuly glass sculpture is enjoying the final weeks of its extended exhibition.
Chihuly, whose art glass adorns everything from the lobby ceiling of the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas to the windows of the Dallas Museum of Art, has loaned dozens of pieces, from small icicles that pop out of a fountain at the exit to countless varied pieces of all colors — many extending tendrils, Gorgon-like, into the air. And because it’s an arboretum, some, like the one pictured right, recall specific plants (can’t you see the spores of a dandelion ready to be caught by the wind).
To fully experience the glamor of the glass, consider attending during Chihuly Nights Sundays—Wednesdays, then Dec. 26–30, when the facility opens at 6 p.m. and the sculptures are illuminated internally for a spectacular light show.
