TRANS HEROES  |  Marla Compton, right, coordinator of Resource Center Dallas’ GEAR program for transgender people, presents Tori Van Fleet of the Fort Worth Police Department’s forensics lab with the Katherine Walton Memorial Award in recognition of her support and activism as a member of the transgender community. Van Fleet received the award, along with trans youth Shawn Tripp, during the recent celebration marking GEAR’s fourth anniversary. Also during the event, RCD Associate Executive Director Cece Cox and the staff of the Nelson-Tebedo Clinic were honored with the Henry Ramirez II Award for outstanding service to the transgender community. The band CHIX presented a donation to GEAR during the event.
