Gays for Trump founder Peter Boykin is running for the North Carolina Legislature. He has no opposition in the Republican primary in a heavily Democratic district in Greensboro, according to the Charlotte Observer.
Boykin made news last week with controversial comments in the Daily Beast about the transgender community, supporting Trump’s transgender military ban.
He said transgender are “mentally challenged” and “would be our weakest link.”
“People already have enough problems with PTSD, I don’t think it’s a good idea to give someone going through that type of change a weapon,” he said in the interview. “They might snap and turn it on their fellow soldiers.”
Under new military rules, however, trans soldiers should have completed their transitions before enlisting.
Boykin tried to explain that Trump’s trans ban wasn’t bigoted but simply a business move.
“This is a president that is probably still friends with Caitlyn Jenner,” he said.
Well, seems he’s wrong there too. According to Newsweek, even Jenner’s had enough of Trump.
“As far as trans issues, this administration has been the worst ever,” Jenner said in the Newsweek published earlier this month.
Boykin did say one thing that’s sensible: “In order for us to be properly represented on both sides, we need gay people on all sides,” he said.
