DVTV premier to feature preview of Pride parade

Online coverage of news and entertainment in the North Texas LGBT community gets a new look this week, as Dallas Voice launches DVTV, the revamped version of its online video news previously known as 2@2 News.
The DVTV premier, available online now at www.dallasvoice.com, will feature a comprehensive preview of the Alan Ross Texas Freedom Parade by news correspondent Jenni Beauchamp and coverage of Legacy Counseling Center’s “Be An Angel” fundraising auction held Sept. 9 at Eddie Deen’s Ranch, plus the weekend’s entertainment calendar, with entertainment correspondent Gus Klein.
DVTV video newscasts will be posted throughout the next week providing in-depth coverage of the parade, the Rally in Lee Park, Gay Day at Six Flags and more. Current and previous segments will also be archived at oaklawn.tv.
Friday will also see another new addition to the Dallas Voice Web site: the DV Speak Out poll question will be a real-time, interactive poll that gives readers the opportunity to make their opinion known and if they are registered at the site add additional comments.
The DV Speak Out poll question will also be published each week on Page 6 in the print edition of Dallas Voice.
Dallas Voice publisher and owner Robert Moore said this week the new, longer video news format is intended to give people a better and more thorough view of what’s happening in the North Texas LGBT community.
The previous 2@2 News format focused on a quick look at LGBT news headlines from around the U.S. and the world, interspersed with occasional video clips from local events with a newscast posted Monday through Friday.
The new DVTV format will feature longer, more in-depth video segments concentrating on news, events and entertainment happening right here in North Texas.
“We’re changing the format to DVTV because the feedback from our online readers and the research both show that people prefer longer, more in-depth video segments,” Moore said.
Moore said the longer segments used from time-to-time in the 2@2 format have all been centered on local events, “and that’s what we do best at Dallas Voice. It makes more sense for us to continue our mission of being the best local GLBT news source, both in print and online.”
“Much of what we covered with the 2@2 newscasts was available from many, many sources online,” Moore added. “It’s important for dallasvoice.com to distinguish itself by delivering news and entertainment content that North Texans can only find on our Web site.”
Moore said that DVTV will continue to incorporate a Friday newscast featuring the week’s headlines from the Voice’s print edition and the entertainment offerings available for the upcoming weekend. The extended video segments will be posted throughout the week as they happen.
“The segments will not necessarily be posted on a specific schedule because news and events don’t happen on a specific schedule,” Moore said. “We will run the segments when events happen, when the segments are newsworthy and significant.”
Moore praised the DVTV team that first came together last January when dallasvoice.com began offering newscasts online.
“I am very happy with our on-camera talent,” Moore said. “Jenni Beauchamp has certainly grown into her role as a newscaster. And Gus Klein brings an authentic enthusiasm for entertainment, arts and the city’s nightlife to his role as our entertainment correspondent.”
Both DVTV anchors said they were excited about the opportunities the new format will present.
“We can give a broader, more involved view of events and news and really take them with us when we go to these events,” Klein said. “And having the segments archived at oaklawn.tv gives our viewers the chance to catch up on what they might have missed.”
Klein is planning an on-going series, tentatively titled “Oak Lawn Nights.”
For Beauchamp, the chance to do more in-depth local news pieces is the real highlight of the new format.
“I want to start really looking at some of the trends in our neighborhood, like crime in the area, and follow up on some of the issues we have not had the chance to cover more comprehensively in the past,” Beauchamp said.
Beauchamp graduated from Southern Methodist University with a degree in journalism. Klein graduated from the University of North Texas with a degree in radio, film and television.
Moore said that Jimmy Bartlett, the owner and producer of oaklawn.tv , has played a vital role in getting, first, 2@2 News and, now, DVTV up.
“Jimmy has been an invaluable partner, both as a producer and in offering his editorial guidance,” Moore said.
Bartlett said he, too, is excited about the opportunities that will open up with the new, longer format newscasts.
“This just strengthens the partnership between DVTV and oaklawn.tv,” Bartlett said. “We’re dedicated to improving communication and information flow within the GLBT community.”
