Gary Fitzsimmons, the Democratic nominee for Dallas District Clerk, has been endorsed by the Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund.

Fitzsimmons, who ran unopposed in the Democratic Party Primary on March 7 faces Republican incumbent Jim Hamlin. Hamlin was elected in 1998 as the “family values” candidate, after defeating his Republican opponent with a little more than 50 percent of the vote. Prior to his election, Hamlin was an aide to Dallas County Commissioner Kenneth Mayfield.

Fitzsimmons said he is a lifelong Democrat with a special concern for civil rights and environmental and labor issues.

He is now assistant director of the Friends of Fair Park.
