Gay Pride in Dallas is about much more than just a parade; there are events scheduled that let LGBT North Texans and everyone else who wants to have a good time celebrate all weekend long.

Derek and Romaine of OutQ Radio 109 on Sirius Satellite Radio will be broadcasting live from the patio at Sue Ellen’s, 3903 Cedar Springs Road, from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday night, Sept. 14.

Then at 8 p.m., the dragapella comedy quartet known as The Kinsey Sicks lights up the stage at the Lakewood Theater, 1825 Abrams Parkway. Tickets to the show are $20 for general admission, and the show is hosted by the Dallas Tavern Guild, the Resource Center of Dallas and American Airlines.

On Saturday, Dallas Voice once again presents Gay Day at Six Flags, and the LGBT community is encouraged to descend, en masse, on the largest theme park in the Southwest for a day of “family” fun.

The park will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and will feature the next-to-last day of Six Flags’ annual Best of Texas Festival. The festival includes a truck-load of Lone Star State traditions, ranging from entertainers to one-of-a-kind crafts to delicious foods prepared with a western flare, according to the theme park’s Web site. There will be more than 25 special vendors offering turn-of-the-century craft items such as candles, quilts, pottery, gourmet coffees and wood carvings.

Special food vendors will have skillet potatoes, chicken and steak fajitas, apple do-dahs and kettle corn, and local entertainers will be performing live on 12 different stages.
In addition to the special Best of Texas activities, all the usual Six Flags thrill rides Batman The Ride, Mr. Freeze, the Superman Tower of Power, the Titan, Judge Roy Scream and more will be up and running throughout the day.

General admission, one-day-only tickets are $47 at the gate, but the Six Flags Web site www.sixflags.com/overTexas offers a special online price of $42, along with an online-only special of buy three, get one free. Admission for children under 48 inches tall is $34.99, and children ages 2 and under get in free.

The park accepts American Express, MasterCard, Visa, Discover and travelers’ checks at the ticket booths, gift shops and major restaurants. Personal and business checks are accepted at the ticket and “will-call” booths.

Be sure to have cash on hand to pay for parking.

Six Flags over Texas is located in Arlington, at the southwest corner of the intersection of Interstate 30 and Highway 360 (the Angus Wynne Jr. Freeway).

Wind up your Saturday with Gay Bingo at the Lakewood Theater. Doors open at 5 p.m., and this month’s theme is “Red Carpet Gay Bingo.”
