A gay couple traveling to Dallas lost all of their possessions last Thursday after their moving truck was stolen from outside an Oklahoma City hotel and burned in what they believe was a hate crime, according to the above report from News Channel 4. The two men, Adam and Robert, were relocating to Texas from Washington state, where Robert recently lost his job and they had their home foreclosed on. They were moving to Dallas to be near family. The couple believes the theft and arson of their moving truck was a hate crime because the suspects didn’t take anything before setting fire to it. The car they were towing behind the truck was also stolen.
Not sure how they figures this was a hate crime? They stole a car and started a fire as a distraction. Were there rainbow flags on the truck? Kinda fuzzy on the motivation here.
I was thinking like Hardy.. but it is rather strange that nothing was stolen from the moving truck. Makes me more suspicious.
Please, everywhere my partner and I travel together, people know we are gay. In restaurants, definitely hotels where you stay in one room.
You are in denial if you think there has to be a note written or something to ascertain it was a hate crime.
@Hardy: I really don’t know other than the fact that the truck was burned and nothing had been taken from inside it.
I think that’s why the word “POSSIBLE” is in front of Hate Crime. It does seem that if they wanted the car, they would have taken just that. They took the moving truck and instead of pawning the stuff, they just destroyed it. What I’d like to know is did the hotel clerk give them trouble about one bed or was there any “hair on your neck” moment that made the couple think they were in for trouble? I have lots of family in Oklahoma and I can tell you not everyone there is closed minded and bigoted.
Tom,
Denial is one river I don’t have to cross.
Consider this ture story, I just got a new car. Still bearing the dealer plates I parked in a Barnes & Noble lot while having coffee. When I came out someone had keyed the side of the car! Was it a hate crime? Hateful – yes, hate crime – no. Now if they had scratched the words “fagots die” in the side of the door, YES that would be a hate crime.
Just trying to figure out the details and I expect more will be revealed. Just reserving my opinion until I see more evidence.
For anyone who wants to help out, here’s the information on the guys…

This is a heinous crime. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that the desk clerk could have called his/her cronies to tell them a couple of “faggots” were staying at the hotel. Of course, I’m merely speculating but my sepculation is not unreasonable. Pleaes visit http://www.pridelaw.blogspot.com.
