Officials with Equality Texas, the group organizing Pride Texas 2006 in Austin this summer, announced this week that Matt Foreman, executive director of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, will be the featured speaker at the Pride Sunrise Brunch on June 4.

Paul E. Scott, executive director of Equality Texas, called Foreman a “national pioneer in advancing equality for LGBT persons across the country.”

“We are looking forward to his sharing the Task Force’s vision for the future of our equality movement,” Scott added.

The brunch will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Whole Foods Market Plaza, and it will honor allies and elected officials for their support of GLBT equal rights in Texas. Whole Foods Market will cater the meal and Barefoot Wine will provide champagne cocktails for the event.

Sponsorship packages are available for the event, and tickets are available for $50 each.

The 11th annual Pride Texas celebration begins with the Pride Family Picnic on June 3 at Zilker Park from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The picnic was designed specifically for GLBT families, organizers said. Admission is free.

Pride Texas continues the following weekend with the Pride Festival from noon to 8 p.m. on June 10 at Waterloo Park.

Organizers described the festival as a “family-friendly, community building event” that will include a variety of local musicians, food and “non-stop fun,” with more than 100 vendors representing GLBT-supportive businesses, artists, restaurants and community service organizations from across the state expected to attend.

Entertainers slated to perform include Manager’s Choice, pianist Lisa Richards, Purly Gates, Flamin’ Desire, Kit Holmes, Omar Lopez, Gadget White Band and Daniel Link.

Admission is $7 for adults and $3 for children under 12.

Pride Texas winds up with the Pride Women’s Dance at 8 p.m. on June 17 at Fiesta Gardens Clubhouse. More than 1,000 women attend the dance each year, organizers said.

Tickets are $10 each, and wristbands for beer will be available, with a valid ID, for $10.
