Shelby Lynne covers Springfield; performs intimate gig at Granada

Gay fans will always hold a candle for Shelby Lynne. Maybe one day, she’ll make the LGBT team beam with pride. But for now, we’ll have to be satisfied with her ridiculously magnificent music — like her latest album, "Just a Little Lovin’," a disc of Dusty Springfield cover tunes.

Sapphic rumors have been billowing around Lynne since 2001 when the London’s Guardian asked her about coming out: Lynne got pissed and said she never came out.

And recently, in a Jan. 13 interview with The New York Times, journalist Rob Hoerburger drew parallels between the two divas: "There were the gay rumors that dogged Springfield most of her career, which in her case turned out to be true, though she never used the word ‘lesbian’ officially. That same speculation has followed around Lynne, who was married briefly when she was 18, and neither will she confirm nor deny, saying only that she goes where the love is. ‘I’ve done everything on every corner of the universe,’ Lynne said, ‘but I’m not going to make an announcement about it."

So maybe we’ll just hold our breaths — and enjoy her terrific retro-soul performances. Temperamental and often frustrated, Lynne either nails it or leaves listeners scratching their heads. Lately with "Just a Little Lovin’" and its predecessor, "Suit Yourself," Shelby Lynne has been nailing it shut. On Thursday, she performs an especially intimate gig in Big D. I wouldn’t miss it.

TRAIN, WRECK
On Tuesday, Bravo’s "Work Out" returns for a third season. If the first two episodes are any indication, we’re in for more hideous egomania, heart-stopping Beverly Hills hotties and that ball-busting force of nature, Jackie Warner, pictured.

Warner hires four new trainers at The Sky Sport & Spa — including beefcake perfection Greg Plitt, a Men’s Health coverboy; and cutie gay boy masseur JD Jordan. Bravo sent Dallas Voice an un-edited version, and in the season preview, Warner’s employee/arch nemesis Brian Peeler tells Warner, "Then don’t fucking disrespect my goddamn client, bitch!"

This season, expect more reality flirting, on-camera drama and flying sparks.
