Dallas native drag diva Wayne Smith plays gypsies, tramps and thieves — and all in one night

If I could reach the stars

Name: Wayne Smith

Spotted at: Hungdinger, hosting and performing at the regular drag show

Do you believe?: Wayne Smith has been called second only to the original for his Cher impersonation, and fans of the diva can find him hosting and performing at sold-out shows Friday and Saturday nights. Smith sets himself apart from the multitude of other Cher impersonators by talking and singing exactly like his inspiration — no lip-synching for his life.

If we could turn back time: … We’d find that Smith began his career in Los Angeles in 1979, when a job working as a costumer for Helen Marler Designs (Bob Mackie’s embroiderer) opened the door to female impersonation at La Cage Aux Folles, the famous L.A. nightclub. That led this Dallas native to Atlantic City, Las Vegas, Miami, Austria and Aruba, and he has been featured on the Biography Channel, Texan Idol and a celebrity lookalike reality TV show on ABC. Wayne has also been very active in the community, helping raise funds for various charities, including the annual Cher Convention in Las Vegas.
