Martin "Marty" Roy Rouse, 56, died of heart disease on May 17 at Medical City of Plano.
A native of West Germany, Rouse had lived in the dallas area for the past 23 years. He attended Washington High School in Washington, Iowa. He later lived in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where he worked for Phelan’s Interiors. He also worked as display director for Killian’s Department Stores where he created 13 "sexy realism" window displays that set the town abuzz and drew media attention from newspapers around the Midwest.
Rouse also owned a florist shop in Cedar Rapids. He had also worked as a designer for Stower’s Furniture and Allen’s Flowers and Gifts in San Antonio.
Rouse had been disabled for the last three years and did not work. But since moving to the Dallas area, he had owned Silkscapes Inc., and had worked for Northaven Gardens, DayStar Florals and Gifts and Sanger-Harris.
He was a member of the United Church of Christ and attended Cathedral of Hope UCC in Dallas.
Rouse is survived by his partner and longtime friend, Charles Cason of Plano; brother, Larry Rouse and wife Ann of Scottsdale, Ariz.; cousins Olive Lyon of Bordentown, N.J., and Abigail Lake of Pemberton, N.J.; and his pets, Stinky, Ming and Miss Kitty.
Funeral services were held July 14 at Cathedral of Hope, with the Rev. Dr. Rusty Baldridge officiating. Interment followed at Cathedral of Hope Memorial Gardens.
The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Cathedral of Hope Building Fund, 5910 Cedar Springs Road, Dallas, Tx 75235-6806.
