Janet Ellen Park of Santa Fe, N.M., and Dallas, died peacefully on Aug. 23, after a long and courageous battle with colon cancer.
She was born on May 3, 1947, in Greenfield, Ohio, the only child of Joan and Leonard Park. She graduated from McClain High School in Greenfield in 1965 and the Elkhart Institute of Technology in Elkhart, Ind., in 1967.
In 1967, Park moved to Dallas where she worked for Southwestern Medical School, training cardio fellows in exercise physiology and testing medications before they were marketed. In 1970, she joined the Veterans Administration Hospital where she worked with Dr. William Shapiro in conducting medical research for professional papers that were later presented at international medical conferences.
In 1983, Park opened Dysrhythmic Data, a non-invasive cardiology lab, which she sold to Diagnostic Health Services in 1996. She joined Legacy Heart Center in 2000 and retired there as director of operations in 2006.
Park was involved in many aspects of community life in Dallas, including being one of the founding members of Dallas Women Against Rape, founding board member of the Dallas Women’s Chorus, co-chair of the Dallas/Fort Worth Lone Star Ride Fighting AIDS, co-chair of Resource Center Dallas’ Toast to Life, board member of the Dallas Federal Club and Resource Center Dallas, and member of St. Thomas the Apostle Episcopal Church in Dallas and Holy Faith Episcopal Church in Santa Fe.
She is survived by her partner of more than 22 years, Ann Caldwell; her aunt, Ruth Clyburn; her cousins Sheila Carey and David Clyburn and their families; her godson, Trey Vennerberg; and numerous special friends and colleagues who well remember her generosity and integrity, her understated beauty and grace, her contagious sense of humor, her innate ability to summon the perfect joke for any occasion, and her telling of those jokes with unerring timing.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at St. Thomas the Apostle Episcopal Church, 6525 Inwood Road, where her ashes will be interred in the columbarium. Honorary pallbearers will be Drs. Waenard Miller, Bob Rosenthal, Jack Schwade and Sam Woolbert.
The family requests that no flowers be sent, according to Episcopal church policy. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 6525 Inwood Road, Dallas, Texas, 75209, to the American Cancer Society, or to your favorite charity.

A memorial service for Michael Irwin, 55, of Dallas, will be held Sunday, Aug. 30, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Oak Lawn United Methodist Church.
Irwin died unexpectedly on Tuesday, Aug. 11, at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Ga.
He was a member of the Oak Lawn Methodist Church in Dallas. He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa Educational Theatre Association, director of the Governor’s Honors Program at Valdosta State University in Georgia and a member of the State Thespian Board of Directors, the Black Tie Dinner Board of Directors for four years and the Black Tie Dinner Advisory Board for one year.

Michael "Big Daddy" Cain died July 21 in Costa Rica, with the love of his life Cesar at his side.
Cain was best known for two things: setting ’em up so you could knock ’em down at several local gay bars over the course of the past 20-plus years, and his single shoulder overalls. Most recently he was guest bartender at Zippers, when he was home on furlough from Costa Rica.
Cain was loved by many and will be missed beyond belief.
A celebration of his life will be held Saturday,
Sept. 5, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the back bar at Zippers, 3333 N. Fitzhugh Ave. Friends are invited to come and bring a story in celebration of his life.

Michael Cox, 39, died on Aug. 21.
He was a longtime officer of Texas Gay Rodeo Association and worked as an accountant for 20 years.
He is survived by his mother, Carolyn Foster and her husband, Billy, of Fort Worth; a number of aunts, uncles and cousins; and a host of friends and other family members.
His funeral was held on Aug. 25 at Mount Olivet Funeral Home and Mount Olivet Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the AIDS Outreach Center, 801 W. Cannon, Fort Worth, Texas 76104.
Travis Wayne Davis, 33, of Dallas died Aug. 18 at his home.
Davis had lived in Dallas for the past 12 years and had worked for American Airlines from 1997 until July of this year.
He had held a number of positions with the airline.
Davis had also previously worked for Reno Air in Las Vegas, at Mark Air and Thai Air in Seattle and at Braniff in Dallas.
Davis is survived by his LGBT family in AA GLEAM and his coworkers at American Airlines.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 12, at 11:30 a.m. at Shannon Rufe Snow Funeral Chapel, 6001 Rufe Snow Ave. in Fort Worth.
Burial will follow at Shannon Rose Hill Memorial Park in Fort Worth.
