Michael Henry Holt, 36, of Dallas, died Saturday, July 1, at his residence.
He graduated from Temple High School in his native Atlanta, Ga., and lived in the Dallas area for the last 10 years.
Mike served in the United States Army from 1988-1992, where he was a specialist medical technician. He was stationed in Germany and received an honorable discharge.
Mike volunteered at the Resource Center of Dallas Nutrition Center, also known as the Food Pantry, and volunteered with the agency’s hot lunch program. Both programs assist those infected with HIV.
Mike loved competing in the Pegasus Slowpitch Softball Association and the Dallas Independent Volleyball Association. In 1997, he was named the Pegasus MVP for playing shortstop and second base. He participated with the Dallas Eagle team at the 1997 Gay Softball World Series held in Atlanta. He loved dancing, listening to music, and had a true passion for animated cartoons and the Sci-fi Channel.
Always having a deep faith, Mike became involved in the Center for Life Enrichment and the Cathedral of Hope later in his life.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Linda Smith Holt. He is survived by his father, Earnest T. Holt Sr., brothers Tommy and Donnie Holt, sister Angela Holt, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends, including Dr. Byron Wadley of Longview, and Debbie Jenkins, Stacey Segal, Mark Thaut, Todd Bernard, Eddie, Wayne and Bernie, all of Dallas.
Mike enjoyed life and came to cherish each day. He will be greatly missed.
