Henry Joseph “Joe” Barnes Jr., 49, died of a heart attack the week of July 27. His beloved dog, Samson, died at the same time.

Barnes was born in Tennessee, and had lived in the Dallas area for about 20 years. He had worked as a waiter.

Barnes loved plants and had a real talent for growing flowers. He also loved his truck. He was known by his friends as a loving and caring person.

Barnes was preceded in death by his lifemate, David Savage, and by both his parents. He is survived by two sisters who live in Tennessee and by one sister who lives in the Dallas area.

Donations in his memory can be sent to the Food Pantry of the AIDS Resource Center.
