Stonewall Democrats to be out this weekend in last-minute effort

Stonewall Democrats of Dallas will be out on the streets in Oak Lawn this weekend, hoping to register an additional 100 new voters before the Oct. 8 voter registration deadline for the Nov. 7 midterm elections.

Jesse Garcia, communications director for the LGBT political organization, said Stonewall has registered more than 300 voters since May.

Garcia said that of the 1,500 voter registration applications received by the Dallas County Elections office between April 7 and Aug. 17, one-tenth were LGBT voter applications turned in by the Stonewall Democrates.

Stonewall Democrats will be registering voters outside Crossroads Market, 3930 Cedar Springs Road, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday and from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday. Voter registrars will be going into Sue Ellen’s, Station 4, JR’s and Throckmorton Mining Company on Saturday night, and into Mickey’s on Sunday.

Voter registration cards have also been inserted in the Oct. 6 issue of Dallas Voice.

Early voting for the Nov. 7 election runs from Oct. 23-Nov. 3.
