A coalition of opposing politicians and breakaway memebrs of Denmark’s ruling Liberal Party this week pushed legislation through the country’s Parliament allowing same-sex couples in legal civil unions to adopt children together.
The vote comes a year after the bill was introduced and happened without the support of the government, according to this report at PinkNews.co.uk.
Denmark had already allowed gays and lesbians to adopt individually, and those in relationships could adopt their partners’ existing children.
Other Nordic countries, such as Iceland, Norway and Sweden, already allowed same-sex couples to adopt jointly.
Not everybody was happy about the new legislation. LifeSiteNews.com, a Catholic website, noted: “The decision came despite Denmark being signatory to the UN’s Convention on the Rights of the Child, which specifies that the interests of children will be considered in legislation pertaining to them over the interests of adults.”droidolomад вордс
