Downtown Dallas Inc., Uptown Dallas Inc., the Greater Dallas Planning Council and five other organizations are hosting “Capturing the Value of Walkability: A Dallas Urban Summit Event,” on Thursday, April 19, from 7:30-10 a.m. at the Wyly Theater, 2400 Flora St. in the Dallas Arts District.
Keynote speaker Chris Leinberg — land-use strategist, professor, real estate developer and author — will offer the latest news on the walkable urban development trend, using detailed economic data to identify the value-add created by walkability.
Scott Polikov of Gateway Planning will moderate a panel discussion on “the real-world challenges of creating walkable developments when dealing with wary existing neighborhoods, outdated or inflexible regulations and market perceptions and realities.” Panel members will include Don Day, a developer and McKinney City Council member; Bill Flaherty with Rosewood Property Company; Neal Sleeper with CityPlace, and Kourtny Garrett with Downtown Dallas Inc.
Other host organizations are Urban Land Institute of North Texas, AIA Dallas, EarthX expo; The Real Estate Council and The Trust for Public Land. The event includes a light breakfast catered by Wolfgang Puck from 7:30-8 a.m., and the program from 8-10 a.m. Admission is $50 for members of participating organizations and $75 for non-members.
