While many cities around the country were staging Pride parades on the 44th anniversary of the Stonewall Rebellion, Dallas’ LGBT Task Force was holding its final June Pride Month event — a “Give Back to Dallas Day” at the Stewpot soup kitchen downtown.
Task Force member Cd Kirven sent over the above photo of Mayor Mike Rawlings paying a visit to the volunteers, who pulled weeds in the heat in addition to helping out in the kitchen. Rawlings, of course, is the city’s former homeless czar.
The event was organized by Nell Gaither of Trans Pride Initiative and brought together volunteers from the LGBT Task Force, LULAC, Bank of America, the Alpha Kappa Alpha Alpha Pi Delta sorority, DFW Pride Movement and the Communities Foundation of Texas, according to Kirven.
