Sara Martinez

Sara Martinez

In the runoff Tuesday, Dallas County has an opportunity to elect openly gay Sara Martinez, who’s running for the open justice of the peace, precinct 5, place 1.

She’s worked in every justice of the peace precinct in the county. She also has an advantage in the precinct with a large portion of LGBT and Hispanic constituents as it covers Oak Lawn. Stonewall and Victory Fund endorsed her.

Martinez is up against attorney Melissa Bellan for the seat. Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson has endorsed her.

Other areas of interest to the LGBT community is the precinct 5 constable’s race where incumbent Beth Villarreal, an LGBT ally, faces deputy constable Michael Orozco.

And LGBT ally Pauline Medrano and Bennie Elnora Brown are in the runoff for county treasurer.

Polls close at 7 p.m.
