The Dallas City Council voted today, Sept. 6, to remove the Robert E. Lee statue from Lee Park in Oak Lawn. The vote was 13-1. Councilwoman Sandy Grayson voted no and Rickey Callahan walked out and did not vote.
According to Councilman Omar Narvaez, “The Robert E. Lee statue comes down now. All other monuments, streets, parks, etc. will be discussed and a recommendation will be brought back to the council on what to do with those.”
The statue will be removed from the park and stored. One report says Lee’s great grandson is interested in acquiring the monument.
