Dallas Rep. Jasmine Crockett

A highlight of the first night of the Democratic National Convention was U.S. Rep Jasmine Crockett of Dallas comparing the resumes of Donald Trump and Kamala Harris.

During her speech, she wiped away tears as she spoke of her first few days in Congress when her swearing in was delayed by more than a week because Republicans were unable to select a Speaker of the House. That week, she said, she also met Vice President Harris for the first time. She spoke of the vice president as a person who wiped away her tears and gave her the courage to represent her district. A month later, she went viral for the first time.

In her speech, she had a few memorable zingers:

“She lived America’s dream while he’s been America’s nightmare,” Crockett said comparing Harris and Trump.

“Kamala Harris has a resume. Donald Trump has a rap sheet,” she said.

And in her most memorable line of the evening, Crockett asked, “will a vindictive vile villain violate voters’ vision?”

Commenting about her appearance at the DNC, Crockett wrote on X: “Last night, I attended my FIRST day of my FIRST DNCC and somehow delivered my FIRST DNCC speech as we race towards the ‘official’ nomination for our FIRST Black & South Asian woman presidential nominee. All while, possibly being the FIRST black woman freshman to have this opportunity. To say that I’m blown away, would be an understatement. More importantly, to hear that so many of you connected with my roller coaster of emotions speech, is so very humbling.”

Below is a video of her speech.
